Grok says… Struie Course at Royal Dornoch Golf Club is the superb second links layout, often called the “Low Course” by locals, offering a delightful and more accessible complement to the world-famous Championship Course. Originally starting as a 9-hole (and later 12-hole) Ladies’ course in the early 1900s, it was expanded to a full 18-hole par-71 (around 6,265 yards) in the late 1990s by Donald Steel and Robin Hiseman, incorporating natural Scottish links elements like meandering burns, tighter fairways, smaller greens, and stunning views across the Dornoch Firth to the hills beyond. Ranked among Scotland’s top 50 links courses, the Struie has emerged from its big sister’s shadow, hosting prestigious events and earning praise for its strategic challenge that suits all skill levels—demanding accuracy while remaining forgiving compared to the Championship layout. Recent enhancements include a spectacular new par-3 hole with an infinity green overlooking the Firth, designed by Mackenzie & Ebert, along with ongoing improvements and future development plans.
